• Account Information: Your email address and password when you create an account.
• Profile Information: Your name, phone number, and emergency message that you optionally provide.
• Location Data: GPS coordinates collected while a safety plan is active. Location is recorded approximately every 3 minutes during an active plan.
• Safety Plans: Details of safety plans you create including destination, meeting details, time range, and emergency message.
• Emergency Contacts: Names and phone numbers of contacts you add as recipients.
• Messages: In-app messages exchanged between you and your emergency contacts in response to alerts.
• Device Information: Push notification tokens to deliver alerts to your device.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Operate and maintain the Chaperone safety platform
• Send automated emergency alerts to your designated contacts when a safety plan expires or a panic alert is triggered
• Deliver push notifications to your device
• Verify your phone number via SMS
• Maintain a history of your safety plans
• Improve and develop the app

3. Location Data

Location data is only collected while you have an active safety plan running. We do not track your location in the background when no plan is active. Your location history is shared with your designated emergency contacts only in the event that:

• You fail to check in before your safety plan deadline, or
• You trigger the panic button

We do not sell, rent, or share your location data with any third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share your information only in the following circumstances:

• Emergency Contacts: Your name, location, destination, and emergency message are shared with contacts you have designated when an alert is triggered.
• Service Providers: We use the following third-party services to operate Chaperone:
  • Supabase — database and authentication
  • Twilio — SMS and WhatsApp message delivery
  • Expo — push notification delivery
  • Google Firebase — push notification infrastructure
  • Render — server hosting
• Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Safety plan history and alert records are retained for up to 12 months. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at legal@getchaperoneapp.com.

6. Security

We take the security of your data seriously. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit and at rest. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong password and keep your safety codes private.

7. Children's Privacy

Chaperone is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately at legal@getchaperoneapp.com.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your data
• Opt out of non-essential communications
